ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in Bulgaria, which is where I got the brutalist DNA. I moved to Milan 7 years ago, which is why I decided to make the Brutalist magazine. As you can tell, I can get a bit home-sick sometimes. Creating this brutalist community helps me feel less alone in my brutalist appreciation and it's one more reason to connect back to my roots. I try to do that by adding Cyrillic here and there, or at least advocating for the inclusion of the script wherever possible.
You'll see I did a bunch of type courses. As every other designer on the planet, I love typography. For me it's rooted in my strange childhood habit of drawing letters. I felt uncomfortable drawing actual things, so I sticked to letters for quite some time. Then eventually, in school we were learning how to use the computer. I remember I used to copy-paste fables from Google into Word, where I'd just spend the rest of the time changing the color of each word and using all of the fonts mixed together in crazy ways (lots of comics sans, zero helvetica). Then i'd switch to Paint, take a small brush and paint the entire canvas black, only to then take a small eraser to clean it all. Then in high school I'd do cringe Tumblr-ish collages on Picsart. All of this led me to choose graphic design, without even knowing quite well what it was when I chose the degree - I just went with what my gut was saying. I'm really glad it turned out to be right.
